Shopping for a used luxury car can be an unsettling process. The prices are appealing, but how do you know if the car's in good shape? And what happens if something breaks? That's where certified pre-owned (CPO) programs come in, offering reconditioned late model vehicles through your local dealer, often at attractive prices. Let's take a look at Infiniti's CPO program to see how it stacks up.
Nissan's luxury division has reassuringly stiff standards for its CPO vehicles. Simply to be eligible for consideration, a used Infiniti must have fewer than 60,000 miles and no more than four years in service, as well as a clean title and Carfax report. These requirements are already more demanding than the norm. Each car then undergoes a 150-plus point inspection by a trained technician, including a road test to verify that everything works as the engineers intended.
Warranty coverage is generous. Every CPO Infiniti receives a six-year/100,000-mile warranty, less the balance of the original four-year/60,000-mile warranty. For a fee, Infiniti also offers an extended eight-year/120,000-mile warranty with expanded coverage for a variety of components and services. The company also throws in numerous perks to sweeten the deal, including three complimentary months of satellite radio, roadside assistance with rental coverage and a free first oil change.
We're impressed by Infiniti's willingness to stand behind its used cars. A CPO Infiniti merits strong consideration alongside other luxury vehicles.
