• 2014 Chevrolet Corvette to offer Premiere Edition
  • Boasts unique exterior color, other details
  • Limited to just 500 units; price unknown

The first examples of Chevrolet's all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray will boast a unique special edition trim package. The automaker recently announced it would make a limited-production Premiere Edition, which boasts a unique look and a long list of standard equipment.

Chevrolet says it plans to build just 500 examples of the all-new Corvette Stingray Premiere Edition. Each will be finished in the model's eye-grabbing Laguna Blue Tintcoat paint color, and all will feature a dark-colored hood stripe. The Stingray Premiere Edition's VIN numbers will start with 300001, giving the cars another interesting touch. Rounding out the special features are unique wheel caps and a set of Corvette-branded luggage made by Thule.

Beyond its exterior details, the Premiere Edition looks to be a top-of-the-line 2014 Corvette Stingray. Standard features include the 3LT option package and the sport-oriented Z51 performance package. The model's optional suede interior trim, carbon fiber accents and dual-mode exhaust system are also all standard.

Chevrolet has not yet announced pricing for the Corvette Premiere Edition, but we don't expect it to be cheap. While the standard Corvette is a relative bargain at around $52,000, adding options like those found in the Premiere Edition could boost the base price by around $20,000. Add in the model's collectability -- and the fact that Premiere Edition 'Vettes will be among the very first of this model made -- and it's possible that this car's price tag could hover around $75,000 or more.

The Premiere Edition marks the beginning of C7 Corvette production. That's the term enthusiasts give to the model's seventh generation, which starts with the 2014 Stingray. Expected in dealers soon, the 2014 Stingray also marks the Corvette's 60th anniversary on the market. The first Corvette rolled off the assembly line in June 1953.

What It Means to You: The arrival of the Premiere Edition means the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is on its way into production.
