• Spyker B6 Venator Spyder previews new model
  • Offers open-air experience compared to standard B6
  • Sales will start in early 2015; pricing expected around $150,000

Sports car manufacturer Spyker showed off an all-new model during this year's Pebble Beach automotive events. The B6 Venator Spyder Concept drew many admiring glances thanks to its low-slung stance and exotic styling.

Officially a concept car, the B6 Venator Spyder is essentially an open-top version of the brand's B6 Venator Coupe. Spyker used this year's Geneva Motor Show to debut that model, which shares most lines with the B6 Venator Spyder.

Such lines are highly distinctive, and boast many Spyker cues also found on the brand's C8 Spyder. They include bulky wheel arches, a huge oval grille and a large front overhang. Both the B6 Venator Coupe and Spyder also use a unique rear grille with a wide third brake light and protruding taillights.

The only major difference between the B6 Venator Coupe and the Spyder is the roof. While the Coupe uses a sloping glass top, the Spyder offers a true open-air design. Both models share an interior, which includes precise diamond stitching, an aluminum-look center console and Spyker's well-known exposed shifter design.

In addition to their similar look, both B6 models also use the same powertrain: a 375-horsepower V6 mated to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission. That's a departure from the C8's engine, which was a 400-hp 4.2-liter V8 sourced from Audi and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Like the closed-roof B6 Venator Coupe, the B6 Venator Spyder is largely ready for production. The brand says it expects sales to begin late next year in Europe, while U.S. buyers will get the first cars in early 2015. Pricing isn't finalized, but most estimates place it around $150,000 -- less than exotic rivals such as the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C.

What it means to you: Drivers who want a unique ride will put their names on the list for the Spyker B6 Venator Spyder Concept.
