What Is It?

The BMW Vision Future Luxury Concept is a large luxury sedan concept car that could preview an upcoming BMW flagship model. While the 7 Series is currently BMW's flagship, the Vision Future Luxury Concept could eventually turn into an even larger model, possibly dubbed the 9 Series.

On the outside, the Vision Future Luxury Concept certainly looks the part of a flagship luxury sedan. It has a commanding presence with enormous wheels, a large front grille and huge doors that feature long, defined lines running down both sides. It all comes together in an unusual rear end with narrow taillights, a pronounced trunk and large quad exhausts.

While BMW hasn't shown off the car's interior, we expect traditional BMW fare turned up to an even higher degree of opulence. That means plush leather seats, huge rear legroom and all the latest gadgets and tech equipment. Of course, that's all speculation, but that level of high-end equipment would certainly suit the flagship BMW model.

We're also not quite sure what's under the Vision Future Luxury Concept's hood, as BMW hasn't confirmed the sedan's powertrain, though the brand did make sure to include eDrive badges on the concept car's rear end. That suggests it will use plug-in hybrid power to optimize fuel efficiency.

Will They Ever Sell It?

The BMW Vision Future Luxury Concept won't reach production in its current state, as the concept car doesn't include many practical design touches -- such as, for example, door handles. But we wouldn't be surprised if a flagship BMW model eventually enters the lineup above the 7 Series.

Why It's Important

Chinese car shoppers especially crave high-dollar luxury sedans, which is why BMW chose to unveil the Vision Future Luxury Concept here in Beijing. If BMW does decide to bring the car to market, China will likely be its most important market, much in the same way that the Chinese market is important for ultra-high-end brands such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

The Vision Future Luxury Concept is also important because it shows that BMW has aspirations for high-end models above its current 7 Series. That's interesting, considering that BMW owns Rolls-Royce, a brand that's already famous for its high-end sedans. The Vision Future Luxury Concept could preview a future collaboration between BMW and Rolls, or it may show off a BMW that will rival the brand's own in-house luxury marque.
