For sale right now on AutoTrader is a 2007 Mercedes ML63 AMG that once belonged to championship boxer Antonio Margarito.
Margarito is a World Boxing Organization championship-winning boxer. In 46 total fights, Margarito won 38 times, 27 of which have been wins by knock out. This December, Margarito is scheduled to take on Miguel Cotto for the World Boxing Association's light middleweight champion title.
The boxer's Mercedes is being sold at Euro Car Inc. in Costa Mesa, Calif. According to Simon Moreno, who works at Euro Car, Margarito is a repeat customer and the dealer acquired the ML63 when he traded it in for a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.
The ML63 is the tuned, high horsepower version of the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class crossover. The big change over the normal vehicle is under the hood. The ML63 boasts a massive 6.3 liter 503 horsepower V8 engine. Each AMG engine is hand-built by a single mechanic in Germany. After the engine is completed, it is signed like a piece of artwork and stuffed into a Mercedes body.
The monstrous engine is able to launch the SUV from 0-60 in 5.0 seconds, but all that power comes at a price. The ML63 is rated by the Environmental Protection Agency at a combined 12 MPG.
Other noticeable changes from the standard Mercedes Benz model are the suspension, brakes and an aggressive looking body kit. Inside, the heavily side-bolstered seats are covered in a combination of leather and alcantara that look more at home in an expensive sports car than in a big SUV.
Margarito's ML has been equipped with a few of the optional extras including an in-dash DVD player and a towing package.
Brand new, an ML63 starts out just shy of $100,000 but this car has an asking price of $48,888 which is still pretty low when compared with the KBB estimated value.
