2017 Bugatti Chiron: Geneva Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2017 Bugatti Chiron is the successor to the Bugatti Veyron supercar, which was at one time the fastest, most powerful, most expensive production car in the world. These days, it's harder to pin down such definitive statements, but the Chiron is faster, more powerful and more expensive than the Veyron.

An 8.0-liter engine arranges 16 cylinders into a W formation (two banks of Vs), adds four turbochargers and delivers a hard-to-get-your-head-around 1,500 hp and 1,106 lb-ft of torque to an all-wheel-drive system. Top speed is limited to 261 miles per hour "for road travel."

Construction-wise, we're looking at plenty of carbon fiber, esoteric lightweight metals and fine leather. The production run will be capped at 500 examples, and 150 have already been ordered. The 2017 Bugatti Chiron is also expected to make the sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds, which is less time than it takes to grab a deep breath.

How Much?

$2.6 million (working on current exchange rates)

When Can You Get It?

Fall 2016

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

You're crazy-rich and need something to whisk you away from the lawyers, brokers, fundraisers and realtors in, in double-quick time. Or you're Kanye West, and if you're already $53 million in debt, what's another 2.6?

Other Cars to Consider

2016 Ferrari LaFerrari -- It only has a top speed of 218 mph, but this hybrid supercar is certainly cheaper at $1.4 million -- not to mention, zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds is still freakishly fast.

2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce -- This will attract the right kind of attention outside the casino in Monaco. It's just a single mph slower than the LaFerrari at the top end and 0.3 of a second slower to 60 mph from a standstill -- that's an absolute bargain at $500,000.

Used Bugatti Veyron -- Oh, what are we thinking? You probably have a Veyron already. How about another Picasso masterpiece instead? You can never have too many of those.
