7 Good Used Fords Under $5,000 for 2019

Whether you’re looking for a car, a truck or an SUV, there’s a lot of variety in used Fords. Fords are traditionally a pretty strong value on the new market and after they’ve had some time to depreciate, they become attractive bargains on the used market.

Here are seven good used Ford models you can find on Autotrader for less than $5,000 in 2019.

2008-2012 Ford Escape

2008-2012 Ford Escape

The second-generation Ford Escape is just starting to creep into 4-digit prices on the used market and there’s likely at least one for sale near you. If there isn’t now, there probably will be soon. The second-gen Escape is mechanically pretty similar to the first-gen model, but it gets updated styling that is aging nicely plus perks like standard electronic stability control and even an efficient hybrid variant was introduced. It also gets a more refined interior that’s quiet, roomy and comfortable, especially for a compact SUV. If you want a nicer version of the same SUV, check out the Mercury Mariner. 2000-2007 Ford Taurus

2000-2007 Ford Taurus

Before Ford made the odd decision to temporarily discontinue the Taurus name, the fourth-generation model was a nice, reliable family hauler. This was the final generation of the Taurus that was available as either a sedan or a wagon and the wagon models actually had two extra seats available in the cargo area. Seats or no seats, the wagon is a nice, utilitarian alternative to the more common sedan. Like the Escape, the Taurus had a more premium counterpart in the form of the Mercury Sable, which could also be had with a wagon body. Find a Ford Taurus for sale

1997-2011 Ford Crown Victoria

1997-2011 Ford Crown Victoria

The Ford Crown Victoria has earned a bit of a cult following for being one of the last of its kind in full-size, body-on-frame, American sedans. For civilian sales, the second and final generation of the "Crown Vic" was only available through 2007, but they continued in fleet sales through 2011. A lot of these are decommissioned police cruisers that are now for sale on Autotrader and can be had at bargain prices. They’re all powered by the 4.6-liter Modular V8 similar to the one found in the Mustang GT of the time and they’re all rear-wheel drive making them not-ideal for snowy climates. If you like the idea of an old school big American sedan, but want something nicer, consider the Mercury Grand Marquis or the Lincoln Town CarFind a Ford Crown Victoria for sale

2004-2008 Ford F-150

2004-2008 Ford F-150

This relatively short-lived generation of the Ford F-150 is good for buyers looking for a good, capable pickup on a budget. It has a look that’s conservative, but rugged looking both traditional and modern. It delivers smooth, responsive handling and a comfortable interior that can get pretty nice in the higher trims. It also has great safety scored making it a compelling family vehicle when equipped with a crew cab. If you can find one, you can find a fancier version of this F-150 in the form of the Lincoln Mark LT, which is a cool luxury pickup if you’re looking for something a little different. Find a Ford F-150 for sale

2002-2005 Ford Explorer

2002-2005 Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer that was introduced for 2002 was significant for being the first Explorer to have its own dedicated platform rather than simply being an SUV version of the Ford Ranger pickup. It’s also the first rear-wheel-drive Ford SUV to have 4-wheel independent suspension providing a refined, car like ride quality while still offering rugged, truck like capability available with a V6 or a V8 plus the availability of either 4-wheel drive or permanent all-wheel drive. Like several other Fords on this list, the same vehicle could be had from Ford’s premium brands in the form of the Mercury Mountaineer and the Lincoln AviatorFind a Ford Explorer for sale

1994-2004 Ford Mustang

1994-2004 Ford Mustang

Shoppers looking for a cool car for less than $5,000, there are few options better than the SN95 generation of the Ford Mustang. There’s a lot of variety within this generation of the Mustang with two distinct styles to choose from since it underwent a pretty significant facelift in 1999. You can choose from coupe or convertible, V6 or V8, and manual or automatic transmission and find the perfect Mustang for you. This Mustang is one of the most fun used Fords out there in this price range. Find a Ford Mustang for sale

1998-2011 Ford Ranger

1998-2011 Ford Ranger

If your pickup truck needs aren’t quite as big and muscular as the F-150, the compact Ranger is a great alternative. The final generation of the Ranger before its hiatus ran for more than a decade and served as a tough, reliable pickup that was more efficient and more affordable than its more popular big brother. When equipped with 4WD, the Ranger has some pretty good off-road chops making it good for drivers looking for an off-roader without breaking the bank. Low operating costs and good fuel economy make the Ranger a budget-friendly truck. Find a Ford Ranger for sale
