- Mazda shows official images of Mazda3 sedan
- Offers styling similar to hatchback
- Pricing unknown; debuts in September
Mazda has officially released several images of its all-new 2014 Mazda3 sedan. The brand is releasing images of the fully redesigned sedan a few weeks after revealing the latest Mazda3 hatchback, which is also redesigned for the new model year.
Like the Mazda3 hatchback, the Mazda3 sedan boasts a completely new look on the outside. New lines and a new grille more closely resemble the midsize Mazda6 sedan, which is all-new for the 2013 model year.
Where the sedan differs from the hatchback is, of course, at the rear. In addition to its trunk, the sedan features smaller tail lights, along with sculpted lines along the rear bumper and over the rear fenders. Nonetheless, the two body styles are unmistakably similar — and clearly Mazda.
Inside, the 2014 Mazda3 sedan also looks a lot like the Mazda3 hatchback. That means a completely redesigned cabin with an available navigation screen placed above the center control stack. Undoubtedly, the sedan also will offer the hatchback’s long list of equipment, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning.
What’s not clear is exactly what powertrain options the sedan will offer. The hatchback has two: today’s 2-liter 4-cylinder, good for 155 horsepower, and a new Skyactiv 2.5-liter that makes a muscular 184 hp. The latter is the same engine in the all-new Mazda6 and recently released CX-5 crossover.
Regardless of engine choices, we’re excited to check out the all-new Mazda3. The sedan has routinely been one of the most engaging models in its class, and we fully expect the new one will continue that tradition. Undoubtedly, we’ll learn more as we get closer to the model’s September launch date.
What it means to you: The latest Mazda3 adds new styling, a new interior and a new engine to an already desirable package.
