5 Crazy Colored Cars for Sale on Autotrader

When an automaker debuts a unique or special model, sometimes they’ll promote it in press materials with a bold exterior color option that then becomes synonymous with that vehicle’s brand. While they may be eye-catching at first, sometimes these colors, to put it simply, don’t age very well. Here we’ve highlighted five crazy colored cars for sale on Autotrader that followed this novel strategy. Let us know in the comments if you can think of any others and whether you’d drive any of these vehicles in these colors today.

1997 Plymouth Prowler – $26,900

Remember when the Plymouth Prowler came out and the only color you could get it in was purple? The color’s official name was ‘Prowler Purple Metallic’ and to me, it’s always the hue I think of when talk of the Prowler comes up. This is a bone-stock 1997 model from the Prowler’s first year of sales, and it’s located at a dealer in Reading, PA with a very reasonable 29,000 miles on the odometer. 2006 Infiniti FX35 – $7,997

The original Infiniti FX debuted for the 2003 model year with this futuristic look. It wore an attractive design in an appealing package, as long as you weren’t looking for actual utility. I can’t help but associate these early FXs with the color shown above. It looks like its official name was the rather unimaginative ‘Orange Metallic’ but I’ve always referred to it as basketball orange. Nissan has used a similar hue for the Murano as well. The original FX35 used a 280-horsepower V6 paired with a 5-speed automatic. This basketball orange example is located in Albany, OR and has 134,000 miles on the odometer. 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo – $12,720

The original Hyundai Veloster spawned a Turbo trim level that was supposed to compete with the Volkswagen GTI and Ford Focus ST, but in a milder package that consisted primarily of a more powerful turbocharged engine and a more aggressive body kit. When Hyundai debuted the Veloster Turbo, the company introduced this unique Matte Gray paint color as well. Maintenance with matte paint finishes can be tricky, but we can all agree that they at least look pretty darn cool. This Matte Gray Veloster Turbo is located at a dealer in Clarksville, IN and comes with just under 57,000 miles on the odometer. Find a Hyundai Veloster for sale

1995 Geo Tracker

1995 Geo Tracker – $6,980

Few vehicles are more associated with 1990s pastel colors than the Geo Tracker. With moderate off-road capability and a folding convertible top, the Tracker is truly a high point of automotive history. With a shiny teal paint job, matching wheels and a like-new canvas top, this is probably one of the nicest Geo Trackers left in existence. Or at least it had better be, given that it’s listed for $7,000 at a dealer in Cleveland, GA with just under 105,000 miles on the odometer. Find a Geo Tracker for sale

2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT

2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT – $12,833

While it wasn’t featured heavily in press materials, Cadillac offered the Escalade EXT in this color-shifting iridescent teal/purple color called ‘Rip Tide Blue.’ When I was in college, I spent a summer working at a Cadillac dealership, and featured prominently on the showroom was a brand-new 2007 Escalade EXT in this crazy color. But here’s the thing – it was July of 2008. So yeah, nobody wanted this color, and needless to say, you won’t see many Rip Tide Blue Escalade EXTs on the road today. This one is located in Stafford, VA with 113,000 miles on the odometer. Find a Cadillac Escalade EXT for sale
