If you’re interested in Japanese performance cars, you probably already know about the increasing popularity of the Honda Prelude: Although it’s front-wheel-drive, many car enthusiasts agree it’s one of the most tossable, lively front-wheel-drive cars around — and clean examples are starting to become sought-after.
This, Oversteerists, is the cleanest example of all. It’s a 1999 Honda Prelude SH — the "SH" stood for "Super Handling," which was due to improved suspension over the base model — and it’s traveled just 17,205 miles from new. It’s the lowest-mileage Prelude on Autotrader, and it’s also the lowest-mileage Honda that isn’t an S2000. And it’s offered by a private seller in rural Ruckersville, Virginia, for $17,000.
Now, to car enthusiasts who love big horsepower, that number may seem like a lot — and, indeed, it’s not a small figure for a 4-cylinder car that boasted about 200 horsepower. But the reality of this car is that Honda doesn’t make many sporty vehicles — and when they do, they make them right. (Consider, for example, the S2000.) This car may have just 200 hp, and it may be front-wheel-drive, but there’s a reason it’s becoming so alluring.
And this one is particularly alluring. Not only is it equipped with the desirable manual transmission, and not only has it covered just 17,205 miles, but the interior is in time-capsule-excellent condition. Same goes for the exterior, which shows no signs of dents, paint fading or scratches.
Interestingly, its Carfax report gives an indication of why its miles are so low: Despite being a 1999 model, it wasn’t titled until 2009, at which point it was sold at auction as a "manufacturer vehicle" with just 899 original miles. This may have been an auto-show car, or at least some sort of display vehicle — but either way, Honda held this one back for a while. And now it can be yours if you just have to have what must be the nicest fifth-generation Prelude in existence. Find a 1999 Honda Prelude for sale
