Autotrader Find: 2001 Ford F-350 With Tank Treads

A Ford F-350 is already a pretty capable machine in stock form. However, for some really big jobs involving really rough terrain, it could use some tweaks to be even more capable. That’s where today’s Autotrader Find comes in. It’s a 2001 Ford F-350 XL with some major modifications, the most major of which is a trank tread conversion.

Where the wheels would normally be on this truck is a set of Mattracks. Mattracks is a Minnesota-based firm that specializes in continuous tracks. These are more commonly referred to as tank treads. Mattracks makes conversion kits for trucks, SUVs, ATVs, commercial vehicles, and even farm equipment. According to the listing for this truck, the Mattracks conversion kit along has a value of about $25,000, and that’s before you add hydraulic power steering.

Other modifications to this truck include a beefy bull bar with a winch and a snorkel intake. In lieu of a traditional truck bed, this truck has a dump truck-like upfit. On the inside, it’s a pretty standard work truck with the addition of some extra controls, presumably for the Mattracks and the winch.

Powering this beast is the mighty 7.3L Powerstroke turbo-diesel V8 producing 250 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. It’s linked to an automatic transmission and as you may have guessed, this truck is equipped with four-wheel drive delivering power to all four continuous tracks. Another interesting nugget about this Ford F-350 is that it has less than 10,000 miles on the clock. It’s pretty uncommon that a truck made for work has such low mileage. As a result, the body and the interior appear to be in excellent condition for a truck this age.

We’re not sure how useful or practical this would be as an everyday work truck, but it would be quite the rig for any work that needs to be done in really rough terrain like a muddy farm field or deep snow. With a price tag of $39,999, it’s on the higher end of the pricing spectrum for a Ford F-350 Super Duty that’s almost 20 years old. However, considering the unique modifications and very low mileage of this truck, it’s worth it for just the right driver. Find a Ford F-350 for sale
