Cadillac Should Make an Escalade V

The Cadillac Escalade has now been on sale for a decade and through several redesigns — and it’s been hugely popular the entire time. But these days, full-size performance SUVs are starting to come on to the scene — and Cadillac should follow suit.

Here’s what I mean. Over the last few years, automakers have been adding more and more performance SUVs to their lineups, including larger, full-size SUVs like the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, the Dodge Durango SRT, the Range Rover Supercharged, the Tesla Model X, the Bentley Bentayga and more.

Meanwhile, Cadillac has been building up its "V" brand with ultra-high-performance versions of many of its vehicles — the CTS-V, the STS-V, the XLR-V and the sporty ATS-V. So why not marry the two?

It’s no secret that the Escalade is looking for a sales bump right now, as the latest Lincoln Navigator debuted about 18 months ago to huge critical acclaim and stole a good chunk of Escalade sales. Also, you may find that the Escalade could use some more power if you’re among those who believe its current 420-horsepower figure just isn’t enough. I think a 600-hp Escalade would be just what these buyers need.

Right now, there are already tuners out there who are getting 600 hp or more out of Escalade models, so it makes sense for Cadillac to take the reins and make the changes in-house, especially given the strength of the V brand and the lagging sales of the Escalade in the face of its new rivals. I know that I’m excited about the prospect of a more powerful Escalade, and I’d be thrilled to see it happen. Find a Cadillac Escalade for sale
