Clint Eastwood Drives a GMC Typhoon

Legendary actor Clint Eastwood doesn’t drive a luxury car or an exotic sports car, and he doesn’t ride around in the back of a chauffeur-driven vehicle. Instead, according to Clint Eastwood, Clint Eastwood drives … a GMC Typhoon. This revelation has surely set the GMC Typhoon forums on fire. See the GMC Typhoon models for sale near you

Here’s the situation: Eastwood was on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon last week, and after joking that he could see Eastwood taking a horse around New York City, Fallon asked the actor what he drives. The answer — a GMC Typhoon — surprised Fallon, who said he had never heard of the limited-production high-performance SUV. Here’s the clip, and a transcript for those of you who can’t watch it at work.

Fallon: What does Clint Eastwood drive? Can I guess what you drive? Because I think that people would guess that you drive a muscle car. I think you drive a truck.

Eastwood: I could drive a truck.

[Laughter]

Fallon: Yeah. What do you drive?

Eastwood: I drive a Typhoon, a GMC Typhoon. It’s out of production now.

Fallon: Just one guy [in the audience] was like … "Yes!" I’ve never heard of that, ever.

Eastwood: It’s actually a turboed V6. It’s fast.

Fallon: Yeah!

[Applause]

For those of you who aren’t up on your old-GMC knowledge, the Typhoon was the original high-performance SUV, a 280-horsepower, turbocharged sport SUV based on the 2-door GMC Jimmy and sold only in 1992 and 1993. It followed up on the GMC Syclone, sold only in 1991, which used the same engine in a pickup-truck body. These days, the Typhoon — which is still regarded as an impressive performer, with a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time in the mid-5-second range — is highly unusual, and it’s becoming valuable. Probably even more valuable if the previous owner was Clint Eastwood. Find a GMC Typhoon for sale

  1. This is/has been a well known fact in the SyTy world. I owned a typhoon back in 2001 and I remember he had a blue one back then (one of one). I think he has had other color Typhoons as well. I kind of remember a pic of him with a red/gray one by a helicopter (same color combo I had).

  2. Probably a nice car to get left alone in. Decently quick, good storage capacity for stuff you need for the day, doesn’t scream rich person. Probably just really rattly inside. Probably plenty of good spots in there to hide a 44 Magnum too…
