Here are some things you know about Colin Powell: He was the Secretary of State, he commanded the U.S. Army during the Persian Gulf War, and he was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Here’s something you didn’t know about Colin Powell: He loves old Volvos. See the used Volvo models for sale near you
Yes, it’s true — our 65th Secretary of State loves old Volvos. You might not expect this, but it’s been documented over the years in dozens of articles, in which Colin Powell discusses military strategy, political success and his years of public service and then goes off on a tangent about a 122S he particularly likes.
In 2007, Powell told the New York Times about his old Volvos: “At one time I had six, stashed at various places around the post so the military police wouldn’t find them all.” In 2013, he told D.C.-area magazine Capitol File that he “fell in love with old Volvos” when he bought a 1977 240 for his son going to college — eventually, he bought more than 20 of them. And in his 1995 memoir My American Journey, Powell discusses at one point applying for a dealer license to buy and sell Volvos. He even received a 1966 Volvo from President Clinton as a gift upon his retirement.
Colin Powell has also talked about owning other cars in various interviews over the years, including a Fisker Karma, an old Volkswagen Beetle and a “Pagoda” Mercedes-Benz SL. But it seems his primary love is old Volvos. Now, if only he could get his powerful political friends to help us change the 25-year import law… Find a used Volvo for sale
