“Alexa, tell Genesis to start my car at 70 degrees.”
Genesis G80 and G90 owners, say hello to your new bestie: Alexa. Hyundai is the first automaker to integrate Amazon’s Alexa with its connected services, allowing for remote voice commands to control its line of Genesis cars.
Have Voice, Will Function
Those driving a G80 or a G90 will be the first to utilize remote-control car functions from another location — from your office, for example, or before heading out of your home on a busy morning. It’ll be pretty nice when you can simply tell your Alexa-enabled device to lock your car or turn on the headlights.
The service works by linking the Alexa feature built into Amazon Echo, Tap, Echo Dot and Fire TV with the G80 and the G90. The system will offer a handful of remote offerings, including remote engine starting with climate control, remote door locking/unlocking and remote horn/lights control.
Using a simple voice interaction through Genesis Connected Services and an Alexa-enabled device, the new technology allows customers to send remote commands to their car from a remote location using simple voice interaction. To send commands to vehicles via Alexa, users must enable the Genesis skill in their Alexa app available on iOS, Android and Fire tablets, then link their existing connected-services account within the Alexa app. Voice commands will only be sent to vehicles after Alexa prompts owners for their connected-services personal identification number.
Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. market, says the Amazon Alexa skill demonstrates the carmaker’s progressive commitment to technology that is intuitive and customer-focused. “It aligns with our belief that time and convenience are the ultimate luxuries,” he says. “From remotely locking your car from your living room to starting your G90 and setting the temperature from your bedroom, the Alexa skill for Genesis offers a new level of ease for owners.”
Another bonus? Genesis G90 owners receive a complimentary Amazon gift card, which can be applied toward an Amazon Echo. Also, vehicles are equipped with 3 years of complimentary connected-car services.
