Infiniti says its dealers will offer a free software upgrade on select 2020 and 2021 model-year sedan, coupe, and SUV models, adding wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.
The automaker is rolling out a wireless Apple CarPlay retrofit for the following models from the 2020 and 2021 model years:
All four models were offered with wired advanced smartphone compatibility, but a software tweak installed by dealers will let users go cordless for access to Apple CarPlay.
Android device users are out of luck, however. Infiniti says that the wireless upgrade only applies to devices using the Apple iOS operating system. From its internal research, the automaker reports that more than 80% of luxury car drivers use Apple devices rather than Android models.
You’ll need to act fairly fast for the wireless upgrade. Infiniti says it will only offer wireless connectivity for free through the end of March 2022. Infiniti won’t be reaching out to owners directly. Instead, drivers will need to contact dealers to schedule the software upgrade. The automaker did not say how long the process would take to perform at a dealership service department.
Wireless Apple smartphone compatibility is standard on automaker’s entire 2022 lineup. See Infiniti models for sale
