- BMW M5 30th Anniversary Edition marks 30 years of the M5
- Special M5 packs a whopping 600 hp, 516 lb-ft of torque
- Production limited to 300 units; just 30 coming to the U.S.
BMW is adding a new model that packs a serious punch. That would be the M5 30th Anniversary Edition, which celebrates 30 years of M5 production with a wild 600-horsepower V8, the most powerful engine ever installed in a BMW production car.
According to BMW, that 600 hp is accompanied by an equally muscular 516 lb-ft of torque. All told, that means the 30th Anniversary M5 boasts a 48-hp boost over the standard model and an extra 16 lb-ft of torque. The result, as you might expect, is a lightning-quick car: BMW says the limited-production M5 has a 0-to-60 time of 3.7 seconds, compared to the standard model’s 4.2.
The M5 30th Anniversary Edition also offers a few other upgrades in addition to its more powerful engine. For one thing, the sedan’s Competition package is standard, coming with a louder exhaust, unique tailpipes, and a sportier steering and suspension tune.
Beyond including the Competition package, the 30th Anniversary M5 also adds a unique Frozen Dark Silver matte paint finish, black chrome badges and special 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there are also a host of 30th Anniversary interior badges, along with black leather upholstery, Alcantara accents and aluminum trim. Finally, BMW says the latest M5 will feature a 1-day driving course at The Thermal Club, a private racetrack near Palm Springs, Calif.
According to BMW, the M5 30th Anniversary Edition will be limited to just 300 models worldwide, only 30 of which will come to the United States. If you want to order one, you’ll need to call a dedicated BMW Customer Relations contact number at 1 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on Wednesday, May 21. The specific number will be revealed on BMW’s Instagram page during the five days leading up to May 21.
If you’re among the first 29 callers on May 21, you’ll have the privilege of buying the unique M5 — a privilege that will cost a whopping $138,275 with tax. Once the owners have been chosen, BMW says the car will reach dealers later this year. The 30th car will be retained by BMW of North America but may be sold to the public later.
