Although Chrysler vehicles have twice earned the coveted prize of Best in Show on the prestigious lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, this year marks the first arrival of SRT, Chrysler’s performance group, at the event. The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition–a special, early edition of the fifth-generation Viper that debuted earlier this year at the New York Auto Show–sports an exclusive blue and white paint scheme and special wheels and badges that set it apart from other Viper models.
Although the new Viper’s shape clearly evokes past models, the design is all new, with bodywork in aluminum and carbon fiber to reduce weight. New materials and improved designs also contribute to improved chassis stiffness while further contributing to weight savings. An 8.4-liter, all-aluminum V10 churns out 640 hp and 600 lb-ft torque.
The first run of 2013 Vipers from Chrysler’s Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit will get the exclusive Launch Edition touches, which include GTS Blue paint and full-length, Bright White racing stripes. The paint scheme matches the finishes on the Viper Coupes revealed in 1996 and 2001. Launch Edition Vipers are also fit with 5-spoke polished aluminum wheels and exclusive badges with a blue background in place of the standard gray. Finally, a serialized dash plaque marks the build sequence.
Outside of the Pebble Beach Concours, SRT is displaying its lineup elsewhere during the week’s events in the Monterey area. The Quail Lodge is host to both the new Viper and other SRT models, and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca Raceway features an SRT display and interactive activities for fans.
The 2013 SRT Viper and Viper GTS models, including the special Launch Edition, arrive in showrooms later this year.
