Finished in custom, traffic yellow paint provided by DuPont and based on a 2014 Ford Mustang, the Project Yellow Jacket show car is hardly subtle. But the SEMA show car does have a tastefully customized look that hides serious performance upgrades. Those include a Vortech supercharged V8 and brake and suspension components to handle the car’s increased power. The Yellow Jacket also gets custom wheels and carbon fiber body components to reduce weight.
While the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 makes 420 horsepower in the stock Mustang GT, this supercharged version benefits from 7.5 pounds of boost, increasing output to 605 horsepower and 473 lb-ft torque. A large radiator painted with the Vortech logo gives away the boosted powerplant, which rests under a carbon fiber hood with cowl induction.
Carbon fiber is used for the Yellow Jacket’s body kit, too, although the custom yellow paint shade hides the lightweight material’s signature woven look. The body kit accentuates the car’s lowered ride height, which is achieved using a Maximum Motorsports suspension package. Tucked in the wheel wells are iForged Icon 3-piece wheels shod in Falken Azenis performance rubber. Six-piston Baer 6S brake calipers replace the Mustang GT’s 2-piston front and 1-piston rear units.
Ford has not yet revealed the Yellow Jacket’s interior, although a yellow-painted roll cage is visible in a photo of the custom car. But the SEMA show in Las Vegas is coming soon, so more details on this higher-performance take on the 2014 Ford Mustang GT will be forthcoming.
