Here's something rather interesting: As you know, the Mercedes G-Wagen is known in the United States (and, at this point, in many places throughout the world) as an ultra-high-end luxury SUV. But despite this reputation, it remains ultra-capable and up for basically any off-road task. And so Mercedes offers a pickup version in Australia.

This is true. While Mercedes recently started offering a stripped-down version of the G-Wagen SUV, known as the "G Professional," in some markets, Australia gets the most professional G-Wagen of all: a pickup. It's offered with a single cab, which is just the standard G-Wagen front end, and then a pickup situation in back.

I say "pickup situation" because I don't mean it comes with some stylish bed in back. Instead, it appears the G-Wagen pickup is offered in two flavors -- one with a utilitarian, workhorse-style metal bed with fold-down sides, and one with a stripped chassis. That's right: In Australia, you can buy a G-Wagen stripped chassis! How cool is that?!

I think it's tremendously cool, and the online brochure on Mercedes-Benz Australia's website is something that will make SUV fans salivate. There are pictures of the truck in fire-engine guise, and there's even a section that shows some cool workhorse accessories like a snorkel and a winch. There are also close-up interior photos showing that this particular G-Wagen is a long way from the luxury icon favored by the Kardashians.

Whether or not you like the G-Wagen, you have to admit a pickup version with a factory snorkel is really, really cool.
