You’ve got until Sunday, February 7, to shop virtually for the Volvo crossover, sedan, or wagon of your dreams. Choose wisely, but don’t be too stingy with options — after all, if a safety is scored during Super Bowl LV, you may have a chance to win a new car.
Volvo says it will give away up to $2 million worth of cars to random entrants who use the automaker’s online configurator to work their way through standard and optional equipment to pick the car of their dreams.
The Swedish automaker’s tie-in is in a different definition of the word safety, since its cars have long been associated with crash-worthiness. All new Volvos come standard with automatic emergency braking, which does its best to help prevent a collision from occurring in the first place.
Safeties are fairly uncommon in the Super Bowl. An example is when a quarterback is tackled in their own end zone, resulting in two points for the opposing team. Only nine safeties have ever been scored in Super Bowl match-ups, making the occurrence rather unusual. The most recent was in 2013, and with one occurring roughly every six Super Bowls, Volvo may very well give away $2 million worth of cars.
As for what Volvo you should configure, that is of course up to you. We’d put our money on a nicely-optioned XC90 Recharge, the hybrid version of the company’s range-topping SUV. Paint ours Thunder Gray, please, and don’t forget the wool blend upholstery.
