Most rental cars are bland. They’re usually unsold inventory or less desirable entry-level cars. But not always: Hertz announced that it’s teaming up with Hendrick Motorsports to make the 750-hp Chevrolet Camaro available as a rental car. Beginning in mid-October, you’ll be able to rent one of 224 Hertz/Hendrick Motorsports Camaros at 15 airports in warm-weather locations such as San Diego, Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
So what exactly are these Hertz/Hendrick Camaro models? Really, they’re ZL1 trim and SS trim Camaros, which pack 650 and 455 horsepower, respectively. But these aren’t just any factory-model Camaros: Hendrick Motorsports added an upgraded Callaway supercharger to the ZL1s to boost them to 750 hp, and a new intake and exhaust bring SS models up to 480 hp. And then you can have your pick of exactly how fast you want your Camaro to go.
There are a few other changes, too, of course, like copious Hertz badging and colors — but that will only make these Camaro models more collectible down the line. That’s assuming they survive, of course. I suspect most of these will be driven hard and fast by eager renters who have little interest in the cars’ long-term preservation.
