We asked a staff member’s sister why she chose to buy a new Honda Civic for her first car, and here’s her reasoning.
I’m a 22-year-old college student who’s graduating from Georgia Tech in a few months, and I just bought a 2014 Honda Civic. Before I venture out into the real world in search of a long-term career, I decided that I needed a more modern ride with an emphasis on convenience, practicality and durability. So I started considering options for my first car to replace a hand-me-down 1998 Accord that I’ve driven since I was 16. See the 2014 Honda Civic models for sale near you
Initially, I wasn’t planning on getting a new car. Instead, I wanted a 2- or 3-year-old vehicle with low miles that I knew would last a long time. Since my family has always been Honda people, our first stop was the Honda dealer, where we test drove a Civic, but I was also open to other automakers. We shopped around, looking at the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla.
After spending a few minutes behind the wheel of the Civic, my plans for a used car changed — especially considering the excellent deal that Honda offered me on a 2014 LX model, which brought the price much closer to my budget. I still went over what I wanted to spend, but now I know that I’ll have a brand-new vehicle that will last for years to come.
It wasn’t just the Civic’s pricing that impressed me: I liked the styling, and I felt that its steering, acceleration and braking were a lot more sensitive than other sedans — a positive thing for me. Its features are also useful and very convenient, especially compared to the old Accord I’ve been driving. Most importantly, I liked the fuel economy: Gas mileage was my No. 1 priority, and the 2014 Honda Civic seemed to offer better numbers than all of its competitors.
So far, I feel sleek and sophisticated in my new Civic. No, it isn’t a brand-new BMW, but it’s a huge upgrade over my old Accord, and the buying process couldn’t have been more stress-free, thanks to my few constraints (mainly fuel economy and cost) and an easy experience at the dealership.
