2014 Ford Fusion Energi: 5 Reasons to Buy – Video

Editor’s note: If you’re looking for information on a newer Ford Fusion Energi, we’ve published an updated review: 2018 Ford Fusion Energi Review.

If you want to go green, the 2014 Ford Fusion certainly gives you options. On the one hand, there’s the Fusion Hybrid, which gets an amazing 47 miles per gallon both in city and in highway driving. But what if you could have a plug-in version with full electric capability? That’s where the 2014 Ford Fusion Energi comes in, and we have five reasons why it could be the best Fusion yet.

Real World EV Range

The plug-in Energi has a bigger battery pack and electric motor than a typical hybrid, so its EV mode really works. You can drive the Energi as an electric car for about 20 miles per charge, which is enough to get a lot of folks to work. Some Energi drivers will hardly ever fill up their gas tanks.

Quick Charging Times

With its standard 120-volt charge cord, the Fusion Energi needs about seven hours for a full recharge. So if your workplace has a charging station, you can charge up while you’re on the job, potentially doubling your EV range. If you can find a 240-volt current (Ford sells a 240-volt charging station for home installation), you’ll only need two-and-a-half hours per charge. It’s pretty easy to keep the Energi’s EV mode juiced up and ready to go. See the 2014 Ford Fusion Energi models for sale near you

Road-Trip Ready

Like the Chevrolet Volt and other plug-in hybrids, the Fusion Energi features a gas engine that has your back when the battery pack gives up. That means you don’t need a backup car for long road trips; the Fusion Energi can do it all. It’s like having two cars in one, and the gas engine still gets an impressive 43 mpg.

Drives Like a Fusion

Aside from its fancy hybrid hardware, the 2014 Ford Fusion Energi drives like any other Fusion. That means you get sharp European-style handling and a smooth, quiet ride. If you want a plug-in hybrid that’s fun to drive, the Fusion Energi’s just the ticket. It can even go 0 to 60 miles per hour in about eight seconds with the gas engine in the mix, though EV mode is much slower.

Spacious Back Seat

Unlike the Volt and the Toyota Prius Plug-In, the Fusion Energi is a plug-in hybrid with plenty of room for passengers. Just check out the back seat: There’s room for a couple of NBA players in there! This is no science experiment. It’s a real car with real functionality, and that’s a major point in Ford’s favor.

AutoTrader Says

The 2014 Ford Fusion Energi is the rare plug-in hybrid that’s also easy to live with, and that should give it plenty of energy in today’s demanding market. Find a Ford Fusion Energi for sale
