Doug DeMuro and Tyler Hoover are back with another debate today, and this time they’re discussing which car they’d buy if they had $100,000 to spend on a single vehicle to use as their one and only means of transportation.
Doug kicks things off by suggesting what both agree is probably the best choice overall — the Mercedes-AMG E 63 Wagon. Doug argues that the E 63 AMG Wagon is everything in one — it’s a sports car, it’s packed with tech, it can fit your family and your dog, and it’s all-wheel drive, so it can be used year-round. While the E 63 AMG starts at about $110,000, Doug points out that relatively new certified pre-owned examples are currently available for under $100k.
Tyler, clearly pulling from his second choice here, as he too would’ve chosen the E 63 AMG, suggests the Porsche 911 Carrera T, a suggestion that Doug then proceeds to criticize heavily, given that the 911 is really only suitable for two people, which goes against the spirit of the debate.
In furthering his point, Doug then brings up his second choice, the Ford F-150 Raptor, which again is a high-tech performance car that’s fun to drive and able to fit up to five passengers. And it happens to be a pickup that can tow and haul and go off-road. The bonus of the Raptor is that it generally costs around $75,000, which is well below the $100,000 budget.
Next, the two agree that the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 570 twins would make another excellent choice given that they’re insanely reliable and comfortable, they can fit your whole family, and they can go off-road.
Finally, Tyler finishes by suggesting a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, which is a similar choice to the AMG E 63 Wagon in that it’s a performance car that can also fit a lot of stuff. Like the E 63 AMG, the Cayenne Turbo starts at over $110,000, but certified pre-owned examples sell for in the $90,000 range and below.
