2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Choosing the Right Trim

Built in Japan and imported to the United States, the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport offers exceptional build quality and detail in a 5-seat compact crossover perfect for urban dwellers.

Mitsubishi gives buyers a choice of five trims: 2.0 S, 2.0 ES, 2.0 LE, 2.0 SE, and 2.4 SEL. All but the SEL employ a 148-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which isn’t big on power or fuel economy. The SEL uses a 2.4-liter engine that bumps output to 168 horsepower.

All Outlander Sport trims use a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) routing power to all four wheels. What we call all-wheel drive (AWD), Mitsubishi calls All-Wheel Control (AWC), but they’re essentially the same thing.

Along with its reasonable price structure, generous content, and good reliability ratings, the Outlander Sport also comes with one of the industry’s best powertrain warranties: 10 years or 100,000 miles. Only the Hyundai Kona and Kia Seltos can match it. Other competitors worth cross-shopping include the Subaru Crosstrek, Jeep Renegade, and Chevrolet Trax.

What’s New:

Last year’s Outlander Sport GT becomes this year’s SEL, and Octane Blue paint is now available on the LE.

Our Recommendation:

We think the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport LE hits the sweet spot for features and price. The upgraded audio system is a must-have, as are heated front seats. Our runner-up would be the top-line SEL for its additional driver-assist systems and more powerful engine.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 S: $23,695

Where most entry-level models are bare-bones vehicles with limited appeal, the Outlander S is quite enticing.

With an eye on keeping everyone safe, Mitsubishi equips the Outlander Sport S with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Other features of note include a drive mode selector, hill start assist (prevents the vehicle from rolling backward when stopped on an incline), an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an anti-theft alarm system.

Moving to the exterior, we find 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, automatic on/off LED headlights, heated power side mirrors, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, remote keyless entry, and rain-sensing wipers.

Inside the Outlander Sport S cabin, we find cloth upholstery covering manually adjustable front seats and a 60/40-split folding rear seat with a folding armrest and built-in cupholders. Cruise control is standard, as is automatic climate control, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth wireless technology, a color multi-information display, power windows with driver one-touch up/down, and a soft-touch dash pad.

The S trim’s entertainment setup is rudimentary, comprised of a 7-inch display screen and a 4-speaker AM/FM/HD Radio receiver. A 12-volt outlet and a single USB outlet provide convenient charging options.

Mitsubishi makes several options packages available on the Outlander Sport, including a Chrome Accents Package, an All-Weather Package, and a Cargo Management System that helps keep your cargo from shifting around while driving.

Adding the $1,445 destination fee ($1,570 in Alaska and Hawaii) to the Outlander Sport 2.0 S base price brings the total to $25,140. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to $474 per month. See 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 S models for sale near you

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 S includes:

  • LED headlights and taillights – The headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights are all LEDs, which are brighter than conventional headlights and illuminate a larger area.
  • Rain-sensing wipers – The Outlander Sport’s wipers automatically activate when sensing rain, snow, or mist hit the windshield.
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror – This mirror dims its reflection when it senses bright headlights approaching from behind.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 ES: $25,695

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 ES tacks on 18-inch alloy wheels and LED fog lights for an extra two grand. That’s it. However, if looks are important, we think the larger wheel/tire package does a better job filling out the fender wells, significantly improving the Outlander Sport’s overall aesthetic.

Adding the $1,445 destination fee ($1,570 Alaska and Hawaii) to the Outlander Sport 2.0 ES base price brings the total to $27,140. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to approximately $512 per month. See 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 ES models for sale near you

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 LE: $26,395

The Outlander Sport gets a little sportier and more luxurious at the 2.0 LE trim level. In addition to upgraded black upholstery with red stitching, the 2.0 LE receives heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, and parking brake.

Black mirror caps and grille accents, as do the 18-inch black-painted wheels, look sharp.

The LE gets an improved audio system featuring an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sirius XM satellite radio, and voice recognition control. It also gains additional USB charge ports (one Type A and one Type C) in the back seat. Missing from the LE or any Outlander Sport trim is a high-end sound system option, something we think is a big deal for younger buyers.

Adding the $1,445 destination fee ($1,570 in Alaska and Hawaii) to the base price of the Outlander Sport 2.0 LE brings the total to $27,840. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to $525 per month. See 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 LE models for sale near you

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 LE includes:

  • Android Auto/Apple CarPlay – These allow your smartphone to interface with your Outlander Sport, letting you play podcasts, get navigational directions, and access other conveniences.
  • Black trim – Besides the black side mirrors and wheels, the LE gets black-painted accents on its grille.
  • 8-inch touchscreen – This larger touchscreen means larger icons, which are easier to touch when rolling down the road.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 SE: $27,695

At the 2.0 SE level, the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport gets even more upgrades. Most important from a safety standpoint are blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, two technologies we wholeheartedly endorse.

Opting for the SE adds power-folding outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals and a 6-speaker audio system. The SE also gets the Fast-Key Entry System, which allows you to unlock, enter, and start the Outlander Sport with the key fob, never leaving your pocket. Also notable: The Outlander Sport 2.0 SE features a push-button starter, so you’ll never have to fumble to find the ignition key slot in the dark (think of every B-movie horror film you saw as a kid).

Visual modifications to the 2.0 SE include body-color side mirrors, 2-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, and a grille with gloss-black and satin silver accents.

Adding the $1,445 destination fee ($1,570 in Alaska and Hawaii) to the base price of the Outlander Sport 2.0 SE brings the total to $29,140. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to $550 per month. See 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 SE models for sale near you

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.0 SE includes:

  • Fast-Key keyless entry – If the key fob is in your purse or pocket, the doors will unlock when you touch the Outlander Sport’s door handle.
  • 6-speaker audio system – Two extra speakers make your tunes sound much better in the 2.0 SE.
  • Blind-spot monitoring – We wish all Outlander Sport models had this system, which warns of traffic in your rear 3-quarter blind spots and makes lane changes much safer. It’s paired with rear cross-traffic alert, which makes it much safer to back out of driveways or parking spots at the market.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL: $28,495

Is the Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL worth $800 more than a 2.0 SE?

We think so. Mitsubishi equips it a little better than the 2.0 SE, and its larger 2.4-liter engine is noticeably more potent than the 2.0-liter. It simply feels more relaxed than the 2.0-liter in daily driving.

What’s more, the Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL is nearly as fuel-efficient, returning 25 mpg in everyday driving (versus 26 for the 2.0-liter).

What else sets the 2.4 SEL apart? In addition to leather-appointed seating surfaces, it gets black roof rails, a black headliner, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink.

Options available on the 2.4 SEL include a body-color rear spoiler and a GT Plus Package with front and rear mudguards, roof crossbars, and a black bumper protector.

Adding the $1,445 destination fee ($1,570 in Alaska and Hawaii) to the base price of the Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL brings the total to $29,940. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to $565 per month. See 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2.4 SEL models for sale near you

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SEL includes:

  • Larger engine – The 2.4-liter makes better power and torque than the 2.0 with only a slight sacrifice in fuel economy.
  • Power driver’s seat – The SEL’s power driver’s seat allows greater leeway in finding the perfect driving position.
  • Leather upholstery – Leather upholstery makes for an upscale interior that’s easier to clean than cloth.
