Volvo ups the ante with the 2024 C40 Recharge. The company has added a less-powerful rear-wheel-drive, Single Motor model that extends the range to 297 miles. This Single Motor also helps lower the C40’s price by about $2,000. The all-wheel drive Twin Motor model also gets a few tweaks, helping improve its range to 257 miles while retaining a 0-60 mph time of just 4.6 seconds.
The Single Motor RWD and Twin Motor AWD models offer three trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultimate. Each provides a unique set of features, although the price difference isn’t enough to generate a big difference in the monthly payments.
The C40 Recharge stacks up nicely compared to the Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Volkswagen ID.4 Pro. It delivers the same or better range and has a more upscale interior.

What’s New:
Volvo adds a new Single Motor rear-drive model to the C40 Recharge family. It features a larger battery, giving it nearly 300 miles of range. The C40 Recharge Twin also gets a little love, extending its range to 254 miles (up from 226).
New features include redesigned 19-inch wheels on the Core and an air purifier on the Plus and Ultimate. The Ultimate gets Pixel LED headlights and cornering lights. Rear-door power child locks are removed from the Core and Plus, now only available on the top-line Ultimate.
Our Recommendation:
Although about $5,000 more than the base Core, the C40 Recharge Ultimate is the best choice. It brings more features we think luxury buyers expect (such as adaptive cruise control) with only a $100 difference in the monthly payment.

2024 Volvo C40 Recharge Core: $53,600 (Single Motor RWD); $55,350 (Twin Motor AWD)
Although the Core is the base grade, it arrives nicely equipped. Standard are 19-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lights (taillights, daytime running lights, auto-on/off headlights, and auto high beams), and rain-sensing wipers.
Also included are a fixed panoramic moonroof, a hands-free power liftgate, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, auto-dimming mirrors (rearview and dual outboard), power-folding heated side mirrors, and one-pedal drive.
Drivers will appreciate the 12.3-inch digital gauge, driver-information display, and the 8-way power-adjustable seat with memory and 4-way power lumbar support. The front seats are heated, too.
Dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, cruise control, and four USB ports are also standard.
A Google-based infotainment interface includes a 9-inch vertical touchscreen, an 8-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio capability. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also standard. The Digital Service Package (4-year complimentary subscription) adds Google built-in (Google Map, voice assistant, and Play Store) and Volvo Cars app remote services.
Volvo provides a technology-packed bundle of safety and driver assistance features. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Also standard are rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, driver-awareness alert, oncoming-lane mitigation, and road-sign assist. Volvo provides rear-park assist, too.
A Climate Package ($1,000) is available on the Core and Plus trims. It adds a heated rear seat, a heated steering wheel, and a heat pump that uses battery heat to warm the C40 Recharge interior.

2024 Volvo C40 Recharge Core includes:
Rain-sensing wipers – When the system senses moisture on the windshield, it automatically engages the wipers. The wiper speed adjusts according to the volume of the rain.
Proximity keyless entry – If the key fob is on your person, the doors automatically unlock when you approach the C40 Recharge. Push-button start pairs with proximity keyless entry.
One-pedal drive – This function allows the C40 Recharge driver to accelerate or decelerate by pressing or releasing the same pedal.
2024 Volvo C40 Recharge Plus: $55,400 (Single Motor RWD); $57,150 (Twin Motor AWD)
For only $1,800 more than the Core, the Plus adds plenty of extras. For example, LED fog lights, front-park assist, a 12-volt power port in the cargo area, and power-folding rear-seat headrests are standard.
Also included are a surround-view camera, a HomeLink transceiver, an 8-way power-adjustable passenger’s seat, an air purifier, and upgraded cloth seating.

HomeLink – This universal transceiver offers programming for your automatic garage door and other functions like your home’s interior lights.
Surround-view camera – It provides a 360-degree bird’s-eye view around the C40 Recharge. This technology is particularly valuable when parking.
LED fog lights – Mounted lower than the headlights, these lights aim downward to illuminate beneath the fog layer. LEDs illuminate a broader and longer area than regular incandescent lights.
