- Special Raptor off-road model includes beadlock-capable wheels
- New top-of-the-line Limited is offered with standard luxury appointments
- F-150 Limited features standard EcoBoost engine and towing equipment
Ford has announced revisions to its F-150 full-size pickup truck lineup for the 2013 model year. The new Limited model is at the top of the line. It includes a long list of luxurious and high-tech standard features, plus styling enhancements that differentiate it from lesser models. The off-road-focused F-150 SVT Raptor is updated for 2013, too. Its changes include equipment for greater capability on the trail and a new exterior color choice.
The new Raptor color is an earth tone appropriately called Terrain. Ford says the color is inspired by desert camouflage, and it's exclusive to the Raptor. Also unique to the Raptor are new beadlock-capable wheels. Beadlock wheels clamp the tire bead so that the tires can be used with low pressure without slipping off the rim. The special wheels on the Raptor require the outer decorative ring to be removed, the tire to be moved into the lock-enabled position and a special beadlock ring-available from Ford Racing-to be mounted. Ford has filed for a patent to protect the wheel design which it says is the first to incorporate both conventional and beadlock capability.
Ford's SYNC now includes a 4.2-inch multi-information screen to control gauge settings, a trip computer and towing and off-road configurations. HID headlights are also now an option on the 2013 Raptor.
The new, top-of-the-line Limited comes standard with a range of features including HID headlights and rain-sensing wipers. MyFord Touch, a Sony audio system with USB and RCA inputs, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats and aluminum and piano black interior trim are all there, as are standard red and black leather seats.
On the outside, the Limited stands apart by its color-keyed bumpers, 22-inch wheels and dimensional Limited bedside lettering. The side mirrors are power folding, and running boards automatically deploy to assist entry and exit.
The F-150 Limited is available exclusively in four-door SuperCrew configuration with Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. A towing package and trailer brake controller are included.
With the Limited arriving in Ford showrooms this fall, choices in the F-150 lineup continue to grow in number and scope. This broad range surely helps the F-150 to maintain its status as the bestselling vehicle in the U.S.
What it means to you: From rugged trail crawler to luxury cruiser, Ford offers a wide range of full-size pickups, including some new or improved models for 2013.
