All-New 2015 Ford F-150 Coming to Detroit Auto Show

  • 2015 Ford F-150 scheduled to debut in Detroit
  • Rumors suggest bolder styling, aluminum construction
  • Ford has not confirmed any details about the upcoming pickup

Pickup fans, get ready: Ford will pull the cover off an all-new, fully redesigned F-150 at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in just a few weeks. That’s big news for the automotive world, since the F-Series is the most popular vehicle in the United States — a title it has held for nearly four decades.

Unfortunately, Ford has kept quiet about its all-new F-150 ahead of the truck’s launch. Still, that hasn’t stopped many rumors from brewing, which is no surprise given the pickup’s huge popularity and the potential impact of an all-new design.

One of the biggest rumors going around the automotive world is that the F-150 will boast aluminum construction. That would be a first among pickup trucks, and it could help the F-150 shed hundreds of pounds. The result could be improved fuel economy and better maneuverability without sacrificing any towing or hauling capability. However, aluminum construction costs more than steel, and that means the F-150 could see a price hike.

As for styling, the F-150 isn’t expected to stray too far from its current look. Many reports suggest the truck will share design cues with the Atlas Concept, which debuted at last year’s Detroit Auto Show. The Atlas Concept incorporated many Ford styling touches, though it boasted a more muscular, aggressive look than today’s F-150.

And what’s under the hood of the all-new F-150? That, too, is a major source of rumors. Today’s F-150 offers four engines. Two are V8s: a 360-horsepower 5.0-liter and a 411-hp 6.2-liter. And there are two V6s, a 302-hp 3.7-liter and the highly popular 365-hp 3.5-liter EcoBoost powerplant — an engine that Ford says combines V6 fuel economy with V8 power. We’d be surprised if the EcoBoost goes away for the 2015 model year. But we wouldn’t be surprised if a smaller engine joins the truck’s lineup, along with a new automatic that improves gas mileage. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see hybrid technology reach the F-150 lineup, considering how many Ford models now offer hybrid or electric versions.

Keep checking back for further information about the all-new 2015 Ford F-150. We’ll have more details as soon as the truck launches at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show.

What it means to you: No matter what Ford does with the new F-150, the truck will make a huge splash when it debuts in Detroit.
