Autotrader Find: Bright Yellow 2001 Isuzu VehiCROSS

Here’s an SUV you may have forgotten. It’s a 2001 Isuzu VehiCROSS, and it’s one of only a handful currently offered for sale on Autotrader. It’s also the only one in yellow, which, in my view, makes it especially desirable — for those of us who like weird, standout cars.

For a little refresher, the VehiCROSS was produced from 1997 to 2001, and sold in the U.S. from 1999 to 2001. Just over 4,000 examples were sold in the U.S., compared to roughly 1,800 in Japan. The VehiCROSS used a 3.5-liter V6 that made 215 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque, and it was mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. All VehiCROSS models were body-on-frame, and all were 4-wheel drive.

This particular VehiCROSS is finished in yellow, which is an uncommon, but exciting color, and it hails from the 2001 model year, meaning it has the larger wheels that were reserved for later VehiCROSS models. It has a gray and black interior, and it’s traveled 116,000 miles from new.

Although the VehiCROSS doesn’t have a removable roof like a Jeep Wrangler, it’s certainly an exciting vehicle — and it’s unlikely that you’ll ever encounter another one on the trails. This VehiCROSS is offered by Atlas Motors in Salt Lake City with an asking price of $9,385, reflecting this SUV’s surprisingly strong values on the used market — likely a result of its body-on-frame construction, durability and uniqueness.

  1. Unbelievably saw TWO of these 8 days ago in the same parking lot in a small college town (silver 2000 & a yellow 2001 like this one) I was quite excited & figure they are owned by the same individual.

  2. I love these things because they are so different, Kind of like a sportier Hummer.

I’m a bit odd in the way I actually like the black panels on this and the older Avalanche, I think the Rendezvous had them too initially.
I’m a practical person and personally I’d like to see more done to mitigate the risk of doors that swing open and damage other cars and I’m surprised that rubber hasn’t been used much for this purpose.
While stationed in Korea you saw many cars that had rubber stoppers that would prevent your doors damaging car parked near yours, My wife has been notorious for swinging open doors and marring up other cars.
    • A former co-worker I once worked with was like this too.. Not a care in the world when swinging the car door open.  I made a point to be sure I was parked in the most un-attractive spot just to avoid getting dinged.
