Here’s something you don’t see every day — or, really, ever. It’s a 1998 Honda Accord that’s been perfectly preserved as a time capsule of Honda life from 20 years ago . It’s a one-owner 1998 Accord EX sedan, finished in some sort of dark purple with a gray cloth interior, and it’s traveled just 70,000 miles from new. Oh, yeah — and it’s a stick shift. Indeed, any 1998 model with 70,000 miles is somewhat rare, but this one is exceptional. The reason for that is nobody ever preserves Honda models aside from the obvious ones like the S2000 and the NSX. It’s tremendously hard to find old, low-mileage Accords because these were built to be driven — and that’s exactly what happened to most of them. This one is particularly special, as it’s the upscale “EX” model (which means it has alloy wheels, a power sunroof, power accessories and a CD player), but it’s also a manual, which must’ve been a rare combination back in 1998. Trust me, it’s much rarer in 2017, with 70,000 miles.
This 1998 Accord is offered by Pohanka Honda in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., and the asking price is $5,997, which is pretty good considering how much life this Accord likely has left in it. As for how this Accord got to where it did, the Carfax report tells the whole story: It was sold new in Alexandria, Virginia, another D.C. suburb, and driven only sparingly; it’s averaged just under 3,700 miles per year since it drove off the dealer lot on September 4, 1998. It’s also been serviced frequently at an independent mechanic that specializes in Asian cars.
Whether or not you’re actually interested in a used Accord, this one is certainly a curiosity, as there aren’t many Accord models from this era left in this condition. Find a 1998 Honda Accord for sale
