Here Are 5 Fun City Cars For Sale on Autotrader

Small cars are a necessity in some cities. Between tight parking spots and narrow streets, having a very small car is a must. That doesn’t mean they have to be boring, so here are some of my favorite tiny, yet fun, cars that should make your city car shopping list!

2013 FIAT 500 Abarth Hatchback

2013 FIAT 500 Abarth Hatchback – $9,995

I’m going to do something I rarely do, start the list with my absolute favorite! The Fiat 500 Abarth is one of the most interesting city cars that I can come up with for this top five. If you haven’t driven one, do yourself a favor — it’s a riot. I once test drove a used 500 Abarth at a local Ford dealer and the salesperson said, and I quote: “this must be broken, I’m not sure it’s supposed to be that loud.” Oh, good sir, it is! The 500 Abarth sounds like an angry little animal with a roar unlike many larger, more powerful cars. It’s not massively fast, but it handles well — and it makes Italian exhaust sounds like the Pope intended! Probably. This 500 is available at a dealer in Costa Mesa, California, with just over 72,000 on the odometer for a reasonable $9,995. Find a Fiat 500 for sale

2018 Honda Fit Sport

2018 Honda Fit Sport – $19,995

Next up on our list of fun city cars is the Honda Fit. Not known as a performance machine, the Fit can be fitted (boom!) with a 6-speed manual — and it comes in a “Sport” version. This cool little gray FIt Sport hatchback is for sale via Carvana in, well wherever you want it to show up I guess! The 1.5-liter 4-cylinder isn’t exactly a barn burner, but it’ll get great MPG and has some of that fun Honda front-wheel drive DNA built in there. Did I mention it’s a manual? Find a Honda Fit for sale

2017 MAZDA MX-5 Miata RF Grand Touring

2017 MAZDA MX-5 Miata RF Grand Touring – $22,956

And now for something a little different. City cars just have to be small — but no one ever said they had to be practical hatchbacks! I drove a Mazda Miata RF Grand Touring recently and it was spectacular. This “answer to all questions” is a 2017 RF Grand Touring that is certified-pre-owned for just $22,956. Your small car can also be a weekend corner carver if you play your cards right. This one is for sale at a Mazda dealer in lovely Charlotte, North Carolina — so go live your best retractable hardtop life! Find a Mazda MX-5 Miata for sale

2017 Chevrolet Bolt Premier

2017 Chevrolet Bolt Premier – $18,395

Continuing the CPO trend, this 2017 Chevrolet Bolt is available as a certified-pre-owned used car for under $20,000! As Doug said, it definitely deserves a second look if you’re in the market for a frugal runabout. This Bolt has just under 66,000 miles, and it comes in the nicely equipped “Premier” trim — along with a nice looking gray paint color. It’s available at a dealer in Orlando for just $18,395. Not a bad price of entry for the all-electric market! Find a Chevrolet Bolt for sale

2016 Volkswagen GTI S

2016 Volkswagen GTI S – $14,964

With all due respect to the “Other Will” of Oversteer, Mr. Kinton, I don’t think that Volkswagen is the answer to all vehicular questions. That said, he let me drive his GTI around Dominion Raceway, and admittedly it was pretty fun. I’m not sure if I would pull the trigger on a used VW without an extended warranty, though — which means that this CPO 2016 GTI S is a great candidate to wrap up our list of the best city cars found here on Autotrader. Also in Florida, this sub $15,000  manual-tranmission 2-door that is for sale in St. Augustine, Florida, is a great way to end the list.

What do all of these cars have in common? They are all 14 feet long or less! That means that tight city parking spots, which is why you need a city car in the first place, are easy to navigate. We also get bonus enthusiast points, since all but the single-speed electric Bolt are equipped with manual transmissions! So you need not trade fun for small car practicality — and that means you can go forth and get that city car of your (diminutive) dreams! Find a Volkswagen GTI for sale

  1. I purchased a used 500 Abarth and drove it for about six month – fun indeed, but the weight distribution sucked.  You could definitely add the Ford Fiesta ST to this list, I test drove that car right before I purchased the Abarth.
Ultimately, I ended up swapping the Abarth for a Fiat 500e (fully electric, like the Bolt, but with a range of only 86 miles).  The 500e is what I think is the ultimate city car.  Small dimensions, no idling engine while in gridlock traffic, and much better weight distribution than the Abarth, due to the batteries.  Install some stickier tires, and it is significantly more fun while cornering.
