VW Ratchets Reworked 2022 Tiguan SUV Price Upward By $750

The updated 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan will start at $25,995 plus a $1,195 destination charge when it hits dealers this fall.

That’s $750 more than last year’s base price, though the tech story inside is quite different. An 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and heated front seats are standard, and a Wi-Fi antenna has been added. Additionally, the Tiguan features tweaked exterior styling, new wheel designs, and revised interior hues.

Oddly, third-row seating remains exclusive to front-wheel-drive versions. Don’t look for a 3-row Tiguan with all-wheel drive.

If the Tiguan is too much SUV for your needs, the smaller Taos, new for 2022, are closely related, albeit with less underhood power. It’s also $3,000 less costly.

The base Tiguan S anchors the lineup at $25,995, or $1,500 more with all-wheel drive. It comes with cloth seats, a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and automatic emergency braking. For $895, shoppers can add adaptive cruise control, active lane control, and a few other driver-assistance packages, as well as auto-dimming exterior mirrors, automatic wipers, and a steering wheel wrapped in synthetic leather.

The SE runs $29,495 to start and swaps in the optional gear from the S plus 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, additional SUB-C ports, a power driver’s seat, and a power tailgate, plus a few other niceties. VW charges $1,200 for a panoramic sunroof or $2,800 for an R-Line package that includes the sunroof and adds sporty-looking exterior trim, big 19-inch wheels, and parking sensors.

The range-topping, all-wheel-drive-only Tiguan SEL builds on the SE with the R-Line group and brings ventilated leather front seats, an upsized digital instrument cluster with more customization potential, 20-inch wheels, a navigation system, Fender speakers, and several other goodies aimed at improving nighttime and parking vision. At $36,595, it’s about $2,500 cheaper than last year’s SEL Premium R-Line trim level. See Volkswagen Tiguan models for sale
