If you’re looking for an excellent older pickup, this 1984 Datsun 720 is an impressive survivor — and it’s currently listed for sale on Autotrader. Offered by Lot 99 LLC just outside Portland, Oregon, this truck has traveled 102,000 miles, but you’d never know it by looking at it, as it’s nearly immaculate — and much nicer than probably any other Datsun truck from this era.
Finished in silver with a matching bed cap and a gray interior, this truck has a manual transmission and 4-wheel drive, which makes it a winning combination for most connoisseurs of vintage trucks. This truck is also a “King Cab” model, which is a paltry addition in the modern world of 4-door crew cab trucks — but it has some additional space behind the seats for storage, should the need arise. The bed has also been modified with a series of shelves and drawers, though those things could likely be removed, should the next owner want to use the truck as a hauler.
The big question, of course, is: how does a truck like this end up in such great shape? After all, few people bought these trucks to preserve. Instead, they’re usually bought to be used, and hard — but this one was, indeed, preserved. The Carfax report shows that it was sold new in 1984 in Saint Louis, bouncing around to a few owners in that area before moving to Fairbanks, Alaska, with a new owner in 2013. A new owner in Oregon, got it in 2016, and the Carfax report shows stops in Eagle, Idaho; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Bishop, California; and Portland, Oregon, suggesting this truck served someone well as a road trip vehicle.
And now it can be yours — in case you’re looking for a Datsun truck in excellent shape.
