Subaru has dropped a teaser photo showing what appears to be an off-road-oriented Wilderness version of its popular Forester SUV. The base Forester was already a formidable 4-wheeler compared to other crossover rivals like the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.
True, it took a little dissecting the vague, closely-cropped photo Subaru released to determine this is indeed a Forester and not an Ascent, a Crosstrek, or — wouldn’t it be intriguing — a BRZ.
If the Wilderness treatment is anything like what Subaru added to its Outback recently, there’s plenty of reason to pack your camping gear in anticipation of adventure. The Outback Wilderness boasts raised ride height, special powertrain and traction control tuning, additional skid plates, and meatier tires.
It’s a safe bet that the Forester — which rides on the same modular architecture as the Outback — will boast a similar roster of rugged goodies.
Both models replicate the kind of gear the aftermarket industry has made its staple right out of the factory.
What’s next? Well, we look forward to closely examining the next photo of a blue Subaru fender with Wilderness badging to determine just what model heads off-road. See Subaru Forester models for sale
