The Honda Accord has been one of the best midsize sedans on the market since it was first introduced in the U.S. in the late 1970s. Given its respectable history, buying a used Accord sedan is typically an easy decision. But with so many to choose from, deciding what model year and trim levels to look for can be challenging. Below, we outline what buyers with a budget of around $15,000 should look for in a used Honda Accord.
The used Accord to look for at the $15,000 price point is a ninth-generation model, built from 2013 to 2017. This is the model that preceded the all-new 2018 Accord, and early examples with reasonable mileage are readily available for around $15,000. There are currently close to 2,600 2013–2017 Accord sedans listed for sale on Autotrader.
The ninth-generation Accord is new enough that even the economical 4-cylinder model with 185 horsepower will be quick enough for everyday driving, while also offering good fuel economy, as most 4-cylinder examples earn around 30 miles per gallon in combined driving. Step up to the V6, and output jumps considerably to 278 hp, but fuel economy drops to around 25 mpg. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models were also offered, but these are far less common and are typically priced in excess of $15,000. Of the just-under 2,600 2013–2017 Accords listed for sale on Autotrader for around $15,000, around 2,400 are 4-cylinder models, 170 are V6 models, and only 17 are of the hybrid variety. This should tell buyers that the 4-cylinder is the most prevalent at this price point, but if you’re patient, a V6 will present itself — but it will likely have higher mileage than a comparable 4-cylinder.
Trim Level and Mileage
As far as trim levels go, close to 500 EX, EX-L and Touring models are listed for under $15,000. We recommend looking for one of these, as they’ll include such niceties as sunroofs, nicer wheels and, in some cases, a leather interior. Many EX and EX-L models are available for under $15,000 with fewer than 40,000 miles on the odometer.
With two different mainstream engines and a number of trim levels available, there are a lot of 2013–2017 Accords to choose from, but a 4-cylinder EX or EX-L model with fewer than 45,000 miles presents the best value; 124 of which are currently for sale on Autotrader.
