Owners of new Volvos insured by Liberty Mutual Insurance may get a break in the cost of their car insurance beginning as early as this year. In a recent announcement from the insurance provider, Volvos equipped with the Volvo City Safety technology — which includes pedestrian, cyclist and large-animal detection with emergency automatic braking — may be eligible for Liberty Mutual’s TechSafety program discounts.
In January 2016, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reported that cars outfitted with Volvo City Safety reduced rear-end crashes by 41 percent and injuries by 47 percent. Recognizing the impact of City Safety on reducing both injuries and repair costs, the TechSafety program could mean premium discounts of up to 10 percent, or as much as $519 annually for Volvos with the City Safety technology.
Since 2010, Liberty Mutual has provided special benefits and discounts to Volvo owners. Rolled out first in Illinois in April of this year, TechSafety will gradually become available in other states.
