Land Rover has finally released details on its upcoming 2012 Range Rover Evoque. The automaker recently announced pricing, technical specs and fuel mileage figures for the smallest-ever Range Rover, which will go on sale this fall.

Of course, SUV shoppers are likely most interested in the Evoque's pricing. According to Land Rover, the two-door "coupe" version will start at $44,995 including destination, while the more traditional five-door model will go for $43,995. That puts the Evoque on the high side of the premium small SUV market, which also includes the Audi Q5 at just over $36,000 and the newly redesigned BMW X3, which starts around $37,000. But the Evoque will be unique in offering a two-door bodystyle, sure to capture some buyers who want an SUV ride-height with coupe-like sportiness.

Those buyers will also be please to discover the Evoque's car-like gas mileage numbers. EPA fuel economy ratings for the small Range Rover will be 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway - the best ratings ever given to a Land Rover. The impressive scores also put the Evoque ahead of the X3 xDrive 28i's 19 city/25 highway rating and almost even with the Q5's 20 city/27 highway. Helping the compact Evoque achieve such strong ratings is a standard six-speed automatic mated to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces a healthy 240 horsepower.

But Land Rover says the Evoque's efficiency doesn't stop with its fuel economy. At just 3,680 pounds, it's the lightest Range Rover ever, thanks to weight-saving technologies like an aluminum hood and roof panels, and tailgate and front fenders made from a polymer composite. And in an effort to make the SUV more sustainable, Land Rover says each Evoque uses about 35 pounds of recycled plastic, from the headliner and engine cover to the rear parcel shelf and air ducting.

The Evoque will join the traditional Range Rover and smaller Range Rover Sport at dealership showrooms in 160 countries worldwide.
