• Program includes Chevrolet, Buick and GMC models
  • Discounts match those to employees of GM suppliers
  • Offers good through December 2

General Motors (GM) announced a special Black Friday sales program that lets the public receive the same discounted pricing offered to the employees of GM suppliers. The promotion, which runs through December 2, includes Chevrolet, Buick and GMC models, but not the Cadillac brand.

Nine models from GM brands are discounted during the sale: four from Chevrolet, three from Buick and two from GMC. Deals vary by brand and model, but all include special pricing, an offer of cash back or both.

Chevy models discounted for Black Friday include the Cruze and Malibu sedans and the Equinox and Traverse crossovers. Among participating Chevy models, the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu LS offers the best discount, both in relative and real terms. The Malibu's $22,965 MSRP drops to a sale price of $19,840. That's savings of $3,125, or about 14 percent off MSRP.

Buick started the promotion with only the LaCrosse sedan and Enclave luxury crossover, but the automaker has since added the compact Verano sedan to its Black Friday promotion. For the Verano, Buick offers 0 percent financing for 60 months plus $1,000 allowance, or a $2,000 allowance for cash buyers. LaCrosse buyers can get discounts of up to $3,889, while Enclave buyers can receive a total discount of $4,766.

Only one GMC model, the Acadia Denali, was on sale when the Black Friday promotion launched. GMC has since added the all-new 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, offering an additional $500 discount for total savings of $5,000 on its Sierra 1500 SLT Crew Cab with Value package. Sierra is the only pickup included in the promotion. SUV shoppers in GMC showrooms can also get discounts up to $4,284 on the 2014 GMC Acadia Denali.

The deals have limitations. Not all Chevrolet, Buick and GMC dealers are required to participate, and not all models are included. Moreover, not every shopper will qualify for the full discount because, for some models, part of the discount is offered only to owners of competitive vehicles. Still, Black Friday sale prices can be a good bargaining chip for savvy negotiators. Be sure to ask about these discounts if you're shopping a participating GM model this Thanksgiving weekend.

What it means to you: GM effectively discounted prices on nine models from Chevy, Buick and GMC by offering special deals during its Black Friday sale, which runs through December 2.
