Oscar season is here and cinephiles all over the country are planning their viewing parties for this year's big Hollywood event. This year, you could out-do all of your friends and show up in a celebrity car of your own, complete with red carpet credentials.
For sale right now on AutoTrader is a one of a kind Chrysler 300 'eco style' that was used by Desperate Housewife Felicity Huffman and husband William H. Macy at the 2010 Golden Globe awards.
The car is the product of a partnership between Chrysler and the nonprofit group Stars for a Cause. Chrysler provided six environmentally themed custom 300s for the event. Along with Huffman, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Christina Aguilera, Leonardo DiCaprio and Colin Firth all arrived in their own bespoke eco-themed Chryslers.
Each car was painted with a different shade of water-based paint. Huffman's 300 was sprayed in a distinct 'dark cordovan' hue, with cordovan interior accents to match. "This particular car is an eco style so basically it's eco-friendly with recycled materials in the interior," said Jim Brown, a salesman at Lund Cadillac, "You have recycled bamboo floor mats and the seats are recycled suede."
On the outside, Huffman and husband, Macy, signed the car's exterior. The signatures were then sprayed over with a protective clear coat paint to keep the signatures from wearing away. The pens used to sign the car will even be included in the sale, Brown said.
Under the hood the car is powered by a 5.7 liter 'Multi-Displacement' V8 engine. The car is able to deactivate some of the engine's eight cylinders when they're not being used to save fuel.
Brown said the 300 was originally worth around $50,000 when it was brand new. This car isn't far from the showroom floor, either; the Chrysler has racked up less than 2,000 miles in its life.
The celebrity cars were auctioned off after the awards show and the proceeds went to each actor's charity of choice. Huffman's car earned $34,250 for Greenpeace.
The dealer is asking $34,882 for the car today which is a bit over the estimated KBB value for a standard 300C, but given the car's celebrity past, unique modifications and ultra low mileage, we'd say this car is worth a little extra change.
