I often tell you I’ve discovered the craziest Autotrader Find yet. Today, I’ve actually discovered the craziest Autotrader Find yet. It’s a 2015 Terradyne GURKHA RPV, and get ready, because this is going to be an interesting one.
To start, let’s go through the obvious: Yes, this thing is listed as a 2015 Ford F-450 4×4 Regular Cab Super Duty, and yes, this thing returns on Carfax as a 2015 Ford F-450 Super Duty. No, it is not a Ford F-450 Super Duty. Instead, it’s quite possibly the most hardcore, brutal survivalist vehicle you can purchase without being the federal government seeking bids for a new military vehicle.
It’s manufactured by a Canadian company called Terradyne, who appears to take Ford F-450 chassis and turn them into serious armored vehicles. They sell four models: the LAPV (light armored patrol vehicle), the MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), the RPV (rapid patrol vehicle) and the CIV, which is a civilian version. This is the “RPV,” although “rapid” might be a stretch in definition; it’s 244 inches long and 96 inches wide, it weighs 15,500 pounds — that’s not the GVW, that’s the curb weight, and it’s due to all the armor — and it tops out at 81 miles per hour.
It also costs an enormous amount of money, as you can see from this ad. This GURKHA — which is offered by Empire Exotic Motors near Dallas — is listed for $325,777, and that’s for a used model with about 8,800 miles on the odometer. I can’t imagine what a new one costs, though it’s worth noting this used one probably hasn’t yet had its capabilities tested, meaning you may not have to spring for a brand-new model.
The ad skillfully goes through all the GURKHA’s exciting features, from the important ones (“Ballistic Glazed Windshield and Windows”) to the comfort ones (“Wilton will flooring in Chocolate Brown”), before reaching a conclusion: “It almost guarantees that nobody will do anything to irritate you again … ever.” Indeed.
