Welcome to the most perfect 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 in existence. OK, sure, there may be a nicer one tucked away in a garage somewhere — but this is certainly the nicest one for sale currently, with virtually no interior or exterior wear and just 9,300 original miles on the odometer. If you’re one of the people who thought the SL-Class went downhill after this version, here’s your chance to pick up a "new" example of the last good one. First off, the details. This 1999 SL500 is offered by a private seller in Dallas — and, as I wrote above, it’s traveled just 9,300 miles since new. The description states that the original owner was a chief financial officer for a large company "and babied the car for years," driving it only sparingly. The Carfax report backs up the assertion that it had only one owner until 2012, and possibly all the way until July 2017.
According to the description, the current owner plans to drive the car — but he’s first offering it to collectors to see if anyone’s looking for a mint SL500 from the R129 generation, which was made from 1989 to 2002. The asking price is $30,000, which is big money for a 20-year-old SL — but, then, there are few others in such perfect condition. Plus, values of 1960s and 1970s SL models continue to climb, suggesting this one will increase someday, too.
Aside from the mileage, the most unusual thing about the car is likely the color combination — red with a cream leather interior, which is a very "Not Mercedes" color scheme, and potentially one that won’t be prized by collectors as this car ages. But if you’re looking for a mint SL, it’s hard to turn down one this nice in any color. Find a 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 for sale
