What We Don’t

Interior isn’t as upscale as rivals; Acura badge isn’t Ferrari, or even Audi; only a V6

Overview

Car enthusiasts have been waiting a long time, but the 2018 Acura NSX is now a reality. Introduced last year as the successor to the oft-praised first-generation Acura NSX, the latest model had been discussed, promised, teased and shown for nearly a decade. Now, it’s with dealers.

So what exactly is it? From a quick glance, one thing is clear: It’s nothing like its predecessor. Gone is the old model’s under-the-radar appearance, replaced instead by bold, stealthy styling that draws attention like a European exotic. Our only design gripe comes on the inside, where this high-dollar ride shares parts with regular Acura models that cost a lot less — a common but disappointing oversight.

As for cost, we might as well get right to it: The 2018 Acura NSX starts at $157,800 including destination, which is a far cry from the old model’s final base price of $89,765. And that only tells part of the story, as the NSX offers a wide, Porsche-like range of additional options, which can easily get the price close to $200,000. At that point, we’re talking about a cost of entry in Lamborghini territory.

But the NSX does a great job justifying its price tag. Handling is impressive thanks to standard all-wheel drive, acceleration is massive, and it’s hard not to fall in love with the engine note of the coupe’s 573-horsepower twin-turbocharged (and hybrid) V6. The NSX also uses some modern electronic aids to enhance the driving experience, including variable drive modes, launch control and a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Simply put: The latest NSX has been worth the wait.
