When word got out that Tesla is making the Model 3, shoppers scrambled to find out how they could get their hands on one. This all-electric midsize sedan is in high demand, and for good reason, since it's intended to be a more affordable Tesla. Here are some stats on the 2018 Tesla Model 3.
15-Inch Touchscreen
Inside the Model 3, the layout is very simple. Up front is a massive 15-inch touchscreen, and it basically controls just about everything. The climate controls, media and music -- it's all done from the touchscreen. You'll have to take some time to get used to the screen, as it can take your focus away from the road. It'll receive automatic updates from Tesla, and you can even personalize some settings as well.
3.5 Seconds
Like the pricier Model S, the Model 3 is fairly quick, especially off the line. Experiencing a drive in a Tesla is quite unique and exciting. The Model 3 does 0-to-60 in about 3.5 seconds. With a top speed of 155 miles per hour, the power is certainly there, as well as the handling. With a lower center of gravity, it really eats up curves.
Autopilot
Tesla has drawn a lot of hype about its innovative Autopilot feature. The Enhanced Autopilot features assist the driver using a helpful combination of radar, sensors and cameras. It also has hardware for full self-driving in the future. With the way Tesla operates, it could be here sooner rather than later.
310-Mile Range
Aside from the sharp design, one true highlight of a Tesla is its driving range. The Model 3 with Long Range has a 310-mile range on a single charge. As an all-electric, this range certainly provides peace of mind, where others may have you stressing to find the nearest charging station.
Storage Space
We like the big 15-in touchscreen, but the rest of the dash and interior look sort of plain. Also, storage space up front is pretty limited. The Model 3 we drove was around $62,000 -- not exactly the $35,000 car consumers were expecting.
Autotrader Says
Think about never having to ever visit a gas station again, unless, of course, you're stopping for a snack or drink. If you're looking for an interesting alternative to a BMW 3 Series, the 2018 Tesla Model 3 is worth considering.
