As we wrote in the 2019 Honda Insight First Drive Review, the latest version of Honda’s dedicated hybrid is a far more conventional vehicle than those that came before. Its styling is similar to an Accord’s, it’s interior is on-par with a Civic’s, and even the way it drives isn’t particularly unusual.
Yet if you’re shopping for a hybrid, chances are you’re considering the car that has become synonymous with them: the Toyota Prius. So how does the 2019 Insight compare? Well, most trim levels of the Insight and Prius get the same 52 miles per gallon in combined driving. That’s exceptional. From there, though, these two hybrids differ by quite a bit. Their hybrid powertrain designs differ, as do the way they drive as a result of it. There are also key differences in terms of steering, braking, ride and handling.
However, we think the biggest differences between the 2019 Honda Insight and Toyota Prius can be found in their interiors. Design, quality, comfort, noise and cargo area are extremely different. Some of those points of disparity may boil down to personal preference, while others should be pretty universal pros and cons. Check out our video to see if these interior differences might make your choice between the new Insight and the Prius a little easier.
